This last weekend was awesome! Jeff’s dad came in town for Claire’s baptism, and we wanted to make sure we had enough planned to keep us all busy. After all, Jeff hasn’t had off an entire weekend in awhile, so we needed to get out and take advantage of it. Grandpa Paul came in town on Friday and did a little exploring of Washington on his own. He went up north to visit some potato growers and ended up finding a great little grocery store in the area…I’ll get to that shortly.
Saturday we got up and headed up to Deception Pass. One of the guys from work had mentioned it, and it looks beautiful. It’s one of Washington’s state parks. Claire slept most of the way up (I think she recharges on the weekend recovering from all the playing at daycare during the week). There’s a beautiful bridge that we crossed (which I think is the “deception pass”), and it was absolutely breathtaking. It was a perfect 75 degree blue sky day (I think grandpa Paul brought the weather with him this time – thank you!!). We grabbed a bite to eat at Deception Grill and had the lovely experience of a grouchy server. She just wasn’t having a good day and unfortunately everyone else had to hear about it. Oh well, life! Then we headed into Deception Pass State Park and to the beach. It was gorgeous! The beach was packed, but we had to let little Claire experience the water! After our visit we drove around the area for a little while. We stumbled upon an adorable town called La Connor. We have to go back there sometime! They had some great looking restaurants. Just a quaint little town. Then we found the grocery store that grandpa Paul had gone to the day before. We stopped there for a little. It’s a gourmet grocery store with a little bar and restaurant. Sweet lady that owns the place. They also had a little wine tasting thing going on out on the patio. Then we headed home for a quick change and then off to go out to eat. Claire was so great all day and loved all the activity! She fell asleep so quickly that night!

Claire getting baptized
Sunday the weather turned on us, but it was a big day for Claire…she was getting baptized, which was the whole reason grandpa Paul was out here visiting. We had our stand-in god-parents (Ivan and Cindy – Jeff’s Food and Beverage Manager and his wife) come by bright and early. The baptism coordinator walked us through all the steps with the other two sets of parents. I was a little nervous since I had never really seen a baptism before (since I’m not Catholic). I was worried that with Claire’s separation anxiety that she wouldn’t let Father Nagel take her and put her in the water, but that part was fine. It was when the water got poured on her that she kind of freaked out – well, just cried a little. Poor thing! It was rather cute though. Then Jeff held her up after so everyone could see and clap for her. Then we changed her into her baptism outfit which was Jeff’s grandpa’s outfit that has been passed down through the family for every baptism. Pretty special! We weren’t sure that Claire would fit in it since she was being baptised older than usual, but she was fine. Very cute! Then we went out to brunch to celebrate and Claire got pancakes! Hee hee!

A little daddy-daughter time
We decided that afternoon to head over to the Museum of Flight to check it out since it was raining (pouring!). Jeff was definitely very engaged in the museum and could have spent the entire day there (he has his pilot’s license, so that’s where I think most of the interest comes from). Paul and I were moving through the museum at a little faster pace. They had everything from Kennedy’s Air Force One plane to the Blue Angels, and rockets and satellites. I was having a blast taking pictures of all of it (I think I was embarrassing the guys a little, but oh well, it was fun – and I think I saw a smile on their faces
).

Claire was a little pooped by the end of the day. If you look close enough you can actually see the drool coming out of her mouth.
