What a rough week this has been for Claire. On Monday when I went to pick her up from daycare, Paula mentioned that she seemed a little off and had the runs. I had been thinking of bringing Claire to the doctor for the last few weeks because I thought something seemed wrong. I was thinking she had a yeast infection because her diaper rash wasn’t going away for the last month or so, and I also thought she had a UTI because her urine smelled so bad when I went to change her diaper in the morning. So the added “runs” just made me think it was time for a visit. We went in Tuesday morning at 9 and met with a doctor that I haven’t seen before. They weighed Claire and she was only at 22.5 lbs (I thought she weighed so much more by now!). Anyway, he barely looked at the rash and asked me some questions, and we ended up leaving with no answers, but rather that everything was normal. I repeat, completely normal. So I drop Claire back off at daycare and go to work. At 4 pm Priscilla from daycare called to say that Claire wasn’t doing well and had a 103.5 temperature and just wanted to be held and said I should come and get her. So I left work and headed over. Sure enough, she was burning up. Poor thing. I decided to drop by the doctor’s office again and explain what happened, but they said not to worry about it and just give her some tylenol. Then we went home and she didn’t eat much. Just wanted to be comforted.
So the next day I stayed home with her and she got up to a 104.5 temperature, so I called the doctor again. They said that unless she’s up to 105, then keep her home, but this time try some Motrin. Pretty much a lazy day of not much playing. Thursday I had a meeting at work, so Jeff stayed home with her in the morning and called and said there was something going on with her, so we brought her to the doctor’s office AGAIN. We got a different doctor and she said right off the bat that she thought it was a yeast infection and UTI. Ugh! Why didn’t they listen to me before! She said we needed to do a catheter. Well the girl messed up the first time and had to do it three times!!! Poor Claire was crying so hard and was just so sick. She kept falling asleep on the table when they were doing it and then would wake up screaming. It was awful. It came back positive of the UTI and yeast infection, so we got her on medication and antibiotics.
We cuddled the rest of the day, and amazingly enough the antibiotics worked very quickly because her fever went down significantly. We were able to bring her into daycare on Friday luckily. I was just hoping she’d feel good in time for Martha and my dad to see her.
